PAF Helps Build Habitat Homes

A team of soldiers from the Philippine Air Force will help build row hous¬es in Quezon City to house 300 teachers as well as informal settlers in Payatas.
Philippine Air Force Chief Major General Lauro Catalino Dela Cruz dispatched a team from the 355th Air Engineering Wing Based in Basa Air Base in Pampanga to help build row houses under the Habitat Philippines’ Nation Building.

Kaya Natin: Honor, Patriotism and Duty

I’ve had the privilege of working with various government institutions since I joined the Kaya Natin Movement for Good Governance and Ethical Leadership. In the course of carrying out our mission to be instruments for good governance, I had to brave offices that you wouldn’t normally deal with. One of them was the Philippine Army.
Kaya Natin and the Philippine Army (PA) started our partnership at the height of all the negative publicity and intrigue that plagued the PA organization. There was a gap between our soldiers and the people. I couldn’t see any reason why this shouldn’t be bridged. After all, they are an integral part of government and shouldn’t be ignored. However, I was a skeptic because positive feedback was scarce.

Palawan to get schools through ‘Balikatan’

SOME 22,000 residents of Palawan stand to benefit from this year’s Balikatan exercises. “Balikatan 2012”, just like the exercises in 2008 and 2010, will again focus on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response Training.
Filipino and American soldiers will construct five school buildings with three classrooms each in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan’s urbanized capital. The school buildings will have complete water system, restrooms and solar-conducive facilities.

AFP, ABS-CBN turn over 50 classrooms in CDO, Iligan

MANILA, Philippines - The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya Foundation have turned over a total of 50 classrooms in storm-ravaged areas of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro cities.
AFP spokesman Col. Arnulfo Burgos Jr. said the turnover was in line with efforts to reconstruct the areas hit by tropical storm “Sendong” last December.
The storm left more than 1,200 people dead and more than 6,000 others injured.
The 50 classrooms were turned over to school authorities in formal ceremonies held in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan last Friday and Saturday, respectively.
